Under the hood
How we calculate your chart
Most horoscope apps recycle generic text for millions of people. Astra computes an actual chart — astronomically — for every single user. Here's what that means.
Swiss Ephemeris precision
When you give Astra your birth date, time and city, your chart is computed with the Swiss Ephemeris — the same astronomical ephemeris used by professional astrologers and observatory-grade software. Planet positions are accurate to arc-minutes, not approximations.
Real coordinates, real houses
Your birth city is geocoded to exact latitude and longitude, which determines your Rising sign and all twelve houses. Two people born the same morning in different cities get genuinely different charts — because the sky really was different.
What if you don't know your birth time?
We cast a solar chart (noon) instead. Sun, Moon and planet signs stay accurate — the Moon moves about 13° a day, so its sign is usually right — and your Rising sign and houses unlock whenever you add your birth time later.
How your morning briefing is built
Every day we compute the current sky against your birth chart, find the tightest transit-to-natal aspects, and translate each one into plain language — what it means and what to actually do. The briefing pulls that together: what to watch, your relationship signal, a work-and-energy forecast, a ritual matched to the Moon phase, and a journal prompt tied to whichever part of your chart the sky is touching.
Best-day timing — how the almanac scores days
For each day in your window we run the same transit-to-natal math, weight aspects by how exact they are and how slow the transiting planet moves, and route the result into practical categories — conversation, decision, launch, love, money, rest. Retrograde periods pull the relevant categories down. The 'best day' for each is simply the highest-scoring day in range.
It calibrates to you
Every time you mark a reading 'resonated' or 'missed', that feedback is stored and folded back in — your dashboard shows your running accuracy, your weekly recap reports it, and the AI astrologer is told your calibration rate and the themes you keep returning to, so its answers track your actual life rather than a generic template.
What Astra is — and isn't
Astra is a mirror, not a fortune teller: a daily practice of reflection built on real astronomy. We frame everything as tendencies and invitations, never certainties. For reflection and entertainment.
